Txakolingunea txakoli museum

Praktika Onak Produktu Cluba Euskadiko Turismo Etika

Txakolingunea, the txakoli museum, is on the way into Bakio, an important centre for production of this smooth, young, fruity wine which is so characteristic of the Basque Country. Bakio’s microclimate, its nearness to the sea and the quality of its soil have historically favoured the cultivation of vineyards.

The txakoli tradition goes back to the late 14th century in this locality. The txakoli made in Bakio belongs to the Bizkaiko Txakolina denomination of origin, one of the three denominations of this wine that exist in the Basque Country. At Txakolingunea visitors can discover all the secrets of this wine through large-format surround audiovisuals, as well as finding out how wine influences health and even learn some of the basic principles of wine tasting.

The museum belongs to the Basque coast line museum network and the Basque network of food and drink museums. Guided tours are also available by arrangement. These include the chance to taste a glass of txakoli from Bakio.

All the visits are guided, for groups over 10 persons a previous reservation is required.Txakoli tasting is included in the visit.
